The Parish Council

The Parish Council is made up of seven councillors members who represent the parish on various matters.  We are effectively the third tier of local government, the other two being Norfolk County Council and Breckland Council.

Do you want to Become a Mindful Village?

The Parish Council is exploring the exciting prospect of our village becoming a 'Mindful Village' as part of the Breckland Mindful District Partnership (BMDP). We believe this initiative could bring valuable mental health awareness and support to our community, helping to foster a more connected and understanding environment for everyone. But we need your input – and, importantly, a few volunteers!

What is a 'Mindful Village'?

The Breckland Mindful District Partnership was established in 2021 to support the "Mindful Towns and Villages" program, which aims to improve mental health awareness across Breckland. A 'Mindful Village' designation means that our community would gain access to free mental health education and training programs. Through this initiative, we can raise awareness of the mental health resources available and encourage a positive, supportive approach to mental well-being right here in our village.

What Does It Involve?

Becoming a Mindful Village is a community-led effort. To achieve this status, we need five local residents to step up as Community Champions. These individuals will participate in a training session provided by the BMDP, where they’ll learn how to hold safe conversations with those struggling with mental health challenges and effectively guide them towards appropriate support services. Importantly, Community Champions are not professional counsellors or therapists – they’re friendly faces in our community, trained to recognize when someone might need help and point them in the right direction.

Our aim is to gather volunteers from a cross-section of the village, including representatives from local sports clubs, small businesses, community organizations, and, of course, any interested residents. By sharing this responsibility across various groups, we can weave a network of support into the very fabric of our village.

Benefits of Becoming a Community Champion

Once trained, Community Champions will receive a certificate and various resources from the program. Additionally, they’ll have access to ongoing support, including:

  • A quarterly Mindful Towns Newsletter

  • The Norfolk & Waveney Mind Mental Health Connectors Network

  • Community development toolkits and advice from the Breckland Community Network

  • Invitations to peer workshops and events with guest speakers

This initiative is designed to empower volunteers and equip them with valuable knowledge and resources that can make a meaningful difference in our community.

Why We Need Your Feedback and Participation

The Parish Council values your opinion on this initiative, and we’d like to hear from you. Are you supportive of the idea of our village becoming a 'Mindful Village'? Would you be interested in becoming a Community Champion, or do you know someone who might be a good fit for this role? Your feedback will help shape our next steps and ensure that this program aligns with our community’s needs and goals.
