Becone a Befriender

There are currently more than 26,000 unpaid carers living in Norfolk who provide over 50 hours of care each week to a family member or friend who need help because of an illness, frailty, disability, or a mental health issue, and cannot cope without support.

The Norfolk Befriending Service is an exciting new project and will match volunteers with carers to offer regular companionship at home, as well as supporting them to access services in their community or provide practical support such as dog walking, collecting prescriptions, shopping and gardening.

Caring Together is a local charity supporting unpaid carers who look after a family member or friend who need help because of an illness, frailty, disability, or a mental health issue and cannot cope without support. The Norfolk Befriending Service aims to offer an inclusive, trusted service that links volunteers with unpaid carers to help reduce loneliness and isolation, build confidence, and improve their wellbeing. If you are able to give some time to help carer near you, or know an unpaid carer who would benefit from receiving this service, please contact the following for more information:

Defibrillator Training

The Parish currently has two defibrillators, one stationed at Garvestone and Thuxton Village Hall and one stationed at East Reymerston Village Hall. The Parish Council are looking for volunteers to undergo training with the East Anglian Air Ambulance who are aiming to minimise the impact of trauma in the community by providing vital first aid training, so that more people can take action if someone nearby suffers a medical emergency.

The training will last about an hour and a half and is likely to take place in the Garvestone and Thuxton village hall. Once we have a list of volunteers we will liaise with the Air Ambulance and yourselves to identify a suitable date for the training. If you are somebody who works in the parish, takes your children to the school or walks your dog near these locations, this really is for you. If you have any questions regarding this please contact the coordinator Jim Smerdon at jimsmerdon@gmail.com or by calling 07792282281.

If you wish to volunteer for the training please contact the parish clerk Samantha Bromley at garvestoneclerk@gmail.com
